What can a Google Chat AI agent do?
Google Chat is often the other chat, the one a partner or a department on Google Workspace uses. Cedric lives in Slack, Telegram or Discord, and this connection lets it reach Google Chat on your behalf. It lists the spaces and direct conversations the connected account belongs to, looks up details about any one of them, reads the recent messages in a space and fetches the full text of a specific message. Ask what the partner space discussed this week and the answer arrives where you asked.
Posting is the other direction. Cedric sends a message to a space, a group conversation or a direct message, including formatted cards, and replies within an existing thread so discussions stay organized. It can edit or delete a message it sent earlier, add or remove emoji reactions, and check or mark a space as read. Every message is drafted and shown to you before it is sent.
Housekeeping is covered as well. Cedric creates new spaces, updates a space's name or description, and adds or removes members, and it retrieves details about the people and groups in a conversation. What it can see is limited to conversations the connected account is a member of; message sending is rate limited; and creating a space, removing a member or deleting a message cannot be undone, so each is confirmed first. Where the limits are
Google Chat is a catalog connection, not a built-in playbook. Cedric works from what the Google Chat connection can read and do; ask in plain words and it says what it can reach there, and what it cannot.
Membership decides what is visible. Cedric reaches only the spaces and direct conversations the connected account, or its assistant identity, is a member of; a space it has not been added to does not exist for it.
Some actions cannot be undone. Creating a space, removing a member or deleting a message is permanent, so each is confirmed first, and message sending is rate limited on Google's side.
Cedric sees what the Google Chat connection grants and nothing more. Access is scoped, logged, and revocable from the dashboard, effective immediately.
Nothing sends itself. An email, a post, a change to a record: anything with consequences comes back as a preview for a human yes. That is the design, not a beta caveat.
